The facade of Dorothy Martinez Elementary School in Little Elm showcases the concept of a flexible zone that allows for free movement between classrooms, sharing energy and dynamism. The facade, clad in King Klinker LF05 Black heart brick, utilizes the American imperial size (19 5/8″ × 2 1/4″ × 9/16″), vertically oriented to elongate the building’s proportions and draw the eye upward.
Both inside and out, the design demonstrates how materials and layout can shape experiences. By combining a community-focused center with the expressive presence of Black heart brick, Dorothy Martinez Elementary School creates an environment that is open, accessible, and opportunity-oriented—fostering curiosity, collaboration, and a strong sense of belonging for students, staff, and families.
Dorothy Martinez Elementary School received a Gold Award in the 2025 Brick Architecture Awards.
